2020: Time for a Change

2020. Where has the time gone?! Next year is my 40th; and boy do I have both personal and professional goals to be met by then. Big, scary, exciting goals and I’m about to give you the inside scoop on one of them!

Over the years, there has been one decision to be made that has been a relatively consistent discussion point. One of us has been ready and the other hasn’t. Six months later, the roles would be reversed. And so we have flipped flop on this decision for years. We’ve grown so comfortable, but it’s time to make a change; it’s time to move on…

It’s time to move, period.

We are really apprehensive about leaving our comfort zone and starting all over again with a new fixer upper. But it’s time. It’s time to find a home with a double garage and a yard big enough for our kids to play in. It’s time for us to have a home office or at least the option of expanding in the future. Time to buy our forever home.

And we are taking you along for the ride!

So, what is all of this going to entail?

I’ve got lists, friends! Lists!! With budgets and project timelines; I’m getting organised! Long may it last. Haha. But, at a high level, these are the phases we are going to go through:

Getting the house ready

Which means:

  • finishing off those projects that never got finished
  • repainting trim
  • replacing the ceiling in the master bedroom, from a less-than-successful previous DIY
  • updating the family bathroom

To name a few. This stage of the project is going to need at least 3 to 4 months and you are going to get to see the underbelly of DIYing. I’m going to let you in and show you my shame. It’s going to be great! (Insert sarcasm here.)

So, basically that means decluttering, decluttering and more decluttering. And cleaning, cleaning and more cleaning. My last Marie Kondo exercise will have nothing on this one! We have gathered the most incredible amount of, well, sh!t. So that’s going to be fun. I will however once again take you along for the ride and show you all my secrets. I’m going to be feeling rather exposed, but as long as you find my tips and tricks helpful, it will all be worth it, right?

Selling and buying

It’s been quite a while since we last bought and we have never sold a house before. So this is going to be rather interesting! Law, Tax, Banks, Admin… it’s going to be a wild ride! I’ll share whatever we learn.

All I know at this stage is that I need to have a suitcase with a pair of pjs, a clean change of clothes and toiletries for each of us, with a second suitcase of minimal bedding required for us all to sleep comfortably on night 1. I will be accepting donations of cooked meals as well as cleaning services; #justsaying hahaha

I’m tired already…Adding feminine touches to the home - Sawdust and High Heels (5)

Seriously, this is why we keep persuading each other that we don’t need to move. It’s a mountain of work and a mountain of money (transfer costs, agents fees, certifications, etc. do not come cheap), but it’s time. At the same time of feeling rather daunted, we are rather excited as well. We cannot wait to get stuck into some new projects in our new home; they are going to be epic!

Along with keeping an eye on my blog (you can subscribe for updates straight to your inbox), you can keep in touch on Instagram and Facebook stories – I’m going to be showing the good, the bad and the downright ugly as we go along.

Are you ready to join me?
